NodeJs (expressjs) Best practice

I am looking for an and best practice in my situation.
I want to pull xml file feed from different server (let say to make it
easier grub RSS feed), there are options to grab latest, how many, years.
And I save all the RSS feeds in my local db (mongodb).
Here is the question:
What is the best practice to sync my local db with the RSS feed one ?
Should I setTimeInterval() and to make new call to the server and check
for updates.
Or some another logic?
I appreciate any help . Would be great if you can post some code snippets
or url.
